Cosmetic Dental Crowns and Bridges

Our Batavia and Blue Ash cosmetic dentists use the highest quality materials for each of our crowns and bridges. That way you can enjoy a durable, high quality restoration that also enhances the overall look of your smile.

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

Crowns (“caps”) are protective covers that wrap around the entire surface of your tooth, down to the gums. You may need a crown if you’re currently experiencing:

  •   Significant structural damage
  •   Root canal treatment
  •   Large cavities or cracks
  •   Severe tooth wear/abrasion
  •   Hypersensitivity
  •   Individual tooth replacement with dental implants

Crowns vs. Dental Fillings

Fillings are designed to go inside of teeth when there’s plenty of tooth structure left to surround them. But the larger a cavity becomes, the less stable it is to support a regular filling. In those situations, it’s best to cover the entire tooth with a crown so that biting pressure is distributed evenly. The crown prevents fracturing or advanced wear, extending the lifespan of your tooth.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a special type of restoration that we use to replace missing teeth. Essentially, it’s supported on either end by a healthy tooth or dental implant, filling in the open space between them. Only the end “crowns” are functional, and the 1-2 pontic crowns between them are gently suspended, like a bridge, over your gum tissue.

Bridges are ideal for maintained biting and chewing, preserving appropriate tooth alignment, and enhancing your smile after tooth loss.

Typically, traditional bridges only replace 1-2 teeth. But if more teeth are missing, we can use implants to support a longer prosthesis (such as our Moorehead Hybrid Denture.)

Better Accuracy and No Gooey Impressions

At Moorehead Family Dentistry, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art digital scanning technology. This tool eliminates the need for gooey molds of your teeth and instead captures a 3D virtual scan. Your digital model is easily transferred to our lab, for better accuracy and more efficient development. Also, with a digital impression, should anything every happen to your bridge, we have the original scan file to make a replacement as opposed to needing to bring your in and take a new impression.

Crown and Bridge Treatment: What to Expect

Although they are two different types of restorations, getting a crown or bridge with our dentists follow a similar procedure. Typically, the process is spaced over two appointments. During the first, we numb and prep the supporting teeth and capture a digital impression. You’ll wear a temporary crown or bridge while the permanent version is being designed. About two weeks later, you’ll return to have the final crown or bridge bonded into place.

Dental Implant Crowns and Bridges

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, there’s nothing better than incorporating dental implants into your care plan. But implants are the artificial root portion of your tooth replacement. Ultimately, you’ll also need a fixed restoration to attach to the top of the implant. That’s where our Batavia and Blue Ash dental implants come in.

We’ll intricately design a set of bridges or crowns to enhance your smile, so that you can enjoy the confidence and beauty of straight, white teeth. Everything is completed right here in our office! Feeling nervous? Be sure to ask about sedation options.

Recent Root Canal Treatment?

After endodontic therapy, it’s important to protect your remaining tooth structure with a full coverage crown. For best results, your crown (“cap”) should be placed within 1-3 weeks after your root canal treatment.
