Comprehensive Dental Exams

Preventative dental care and early intervention are the best resources for preventing common oral health problems. Most infections — like cavities and gum disease — are preventable. The key is to visit with our dentists in Blue Ash or Batavia for routine exams and smile maintenance.

Baseline Exams

Your initial comprehensive exam will provide a baseline for our dentists to reference at future checkups. During your new patient evaluation and ongoing hygiene exams, some of the things we’ll look for or utilize include:

  •   Digital photographs of your teeth and profile
  •   Digital X-rays
  •   Possible 3D CBCT scan (if needed)
  •   Digital intraoral scan/impression (if needed)
  •   Periodontal assessment and gum measurements
  •   Full medical history and health review
  •   Oral cancer screening
  •   Hygiene assessment
  •   Signs of tooth decay, wear, or enamel erosion
  •   Integrity of existing dental work
  •   TMJ disorder

In most cases, a new patient exam takes approximately 90 minutes to complete. By spending more time with you and fully assessing your entire smile, our team is better equipped to help you be proactive about your future oral health.

Your Dental Hygiene Exam

Most periodic exams take place during your dental hygiene appointment every six months. These intermittent evaluations allow our dentists to monitor your smile’s health and pinpoint any changes since your last visit. That way, infections can be intercepted earlier, keeping your smile strong and cost of dental care as low as possible.

On intermittent occasions, we’ll update your digital bitewing X-rays (to check for cavities between teeth) and periodontal exam. Depending on your risk factors, our hygienists will typically do this once per year. Our dentists in Blue Ash and Batavia are committed to tailoring your oral health experience to be one that fits your past dental needs, lifestyle, and existing diagnoses.

Limited Dental Exams

If you’re in pain or experiencing a dental emergency, our dentists will see you as soon as possible to discuss your concerns and determine the best treatment for you. These limited exams are problem-specific, so that we can help you find the best option to get out of pain.

You may need this focused exam if you have a toothache, broken tooth, or think you have a cavity. In most cases, we’ll take a single (“periapical”) X-ray of the tooth that’s giving you problems to fully evaluate the extent of your needs.

Cost of Dental Exams

Great news! For those with dental insurance, most dental exam costs are covered by your dental insurance policy or only require a small co-pay at the time of your appointment. But if you don’t have dental insurance, be sure to ask about our in-house dental benefit plan. Members are covered for preventative care and can enjoy similar discounts on cosmetic and restorative services, similar to traditional coverage but without the middleman.

Ultimately, seeing our Batavia and Blue Ash dentists for regular exams helps keep your lifetime dental costs as low as possible. By waiting longer between visits, issues tend to progress into more aggressive infections, which require more extensive treatments to resolve. The sooner you see a dentist, the least-invasive and more affordable the treatment typically tends to be.
