Additional Treatments

For our patient's convenience and to provide affordable dental care, we offer many dental procedures in each of our two locations: Blue Ash and Batavia, Ohio.

Occlusal (Night) Guards

These dental guards are worn at night time and are used to reduce the impact of grinding teeth and the effects that it can have on diminishing enamel, that outer layer of the tooth that gives it strength and prevents decay. The guards are made in-house is most circumstances, which makes the turn around time just a few days from the initial impressions.

Scaling and Root Planing

Gum Infection (Periodontal) Therapy and Maintenance

Periodontal disease is diagnosed by your dentist or dental hygienist during a periodontal examination. Based on gum measurements and other factors, Periodontitis can be the diagnosis, which means that the gums are receding away from the tooth. This leads to infection, eventual bone loss and tooth loss. There have been studies in the past decade linking Periodontitis to heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and complications with pregnancy.

To reverse periodontitis, a procedure that we call Periodontal Therapy (sometimes also known as Scaling and Root Planing or deep cleaning) takes place. In this procedure, tartar, plaque, and toxins are removed from above and below the gum line (scaling) and rough spots on root surfaces are made smooth (planing), while the area is numb. This procedure helps gum tissue to heal and pockets to shrink.

Once the periodontal therapy takes place, the patient is typically placed on a maintenance plan, consisting, on average, of four visits per year.  At these cleaning appointments, the pocket depths will be carefully checked to ensure that they are healthy. Plaque and calculus that is difficult for you to remove on a daily basis will be removed from above and below the gum line.

Athletic Mouth Guards

When an athlete is under physical exertion, the body’s natural response is to clench the jaw. The magic behind the Under Armour Performance Mouthwear is that it prevents the teeth from clenching and pivots the jaw forward to relieve pressure on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Because Under Armour Performance Mouthwear is a custom-fitted appliance, it can only be designed with the help of a trained dentist. The process of getting the mouthpiece is extremely easy—just a simple fitting at Moorehead Family Dentistry and then it arrives less than two weeks later. The Under Armour model is very noninvasive and allows athletes to breathe and speak easily.
